Flooring is in Sam Carreon's blood.

The owner of The Carpet Store, located in Arlington and Richland Hills said he doesn't remember when he began laying carpet. As far back as he can remember, he has always been involved in the business, helping his father lay carpet during weekends and vacations from school.

"I can't tell you when I started laying pad," he said. "I was maybe 16 when laid my first carpet by myself.

"My goal and dream has always been to open up my own business," Carreon said. "With over 30 years of experience from my dad, the time is finally here."

He can now realize his dream.

One of the main thoughts behind opening the store is Carreon can control customer service and make his customers happy, as well as make money at something he really loves to do.

"When people are spending their hard-earned money, you tend to build a relationship," he said. "That's what sales is all about. People buy from you based on customer service and product knowledge. People can trust me because of my life-long experience."

That customer service and product knowledge comes from Carreon's own extensive experience in the carpet business. He started as a helper with his father laying padding and continued to work as an installer. He has worked for various well-known carpet companies and flooring-gallery companies in the same capacity and has been a top performer in sales and management. His previous customers have a fierce loyalty because of his experience and product knowledge. Carreon said they like the fact that he can answer any question about the business, whether it be about installation procedures or which carpet is the best type for each home.

"When people come in to talk to me their are going to get the whole spiel, "he said. "I'm not just going to sell them the most expensive carpet. I want to sell the best carpet for their home.

"The main thing I want people to know is that even though its a new business, there's a lot of experience," Carreon said.

That experience can be counted on to provide great service from Carreon down to his installers, who are all certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute.

"This is what I love to do," he said. "I love flooring and dealing with people. I learned that from my Dad, so I guess that it's in my blood."

The Carpet Stores are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The store is closed on Sunday for family time.
